Brewing coffee at home
“Coffee is about taste now, and that’s why there are many different ways to make coffee — You definitely don’t have to be a master barista to make coffee – anyone can do it. There are lots of inexpensive options and super easy to use coffee equipment that you can checkout. For example, a French-Press, a Chemex, a Hario V60, and others. Any of these are going to kick your coffee up a notch from the ordinary household drip coffee machine.
Here is an example guide for simple brewing methods.
Moreover, you can adjust or experiment with the proportions according to your taste and preference. A simple rule of thumb is:
- Water Temperature: Water temperature at the time of contact with the coffee should be 200°F (93.0°C) plus or minus 5°; (about 5 minutes of boiling time)
- A standard coffee measure: should be 2 Tbsp. (2 Tbsp. = 1/8 cup = 10.6 g) of ground coffee per 6 oz of water.

Brewing Tips
Here are a few tips on how to brew a great cup of coffee at home:
- Always use freshly roasted coffee beans as they hold their character and aroma. Once you open roasted beans or ground coffee, you should plan to use it up within 15-20 days for the best flavor.
- Ensure to store your freshly roasted beans in an airtight container to prevent stale beans and or picking up other flavors and odors.
- Try to grind the whole coffee beans just before brewing for the ultimate flavor and aroma. Ensure to grind correctly for your brewing method. For example, a French Press requires a coarser grind than a cone filter or Turkish/Espresso style brewing.
- Quality fresh filtered water gives the coffee a cleaner taste.
- Using the proper proportion of coffee to water ratio.
- Always keep your brewing equipment clean.
